The X-Q microphone was discontinued in October 2009.

The X-Q is an electret condenser microphone that uses a 6mm omnidirectional capsule. Its frequency response is essentially flat from 20Hz to 20kHz, with a slight rise in response above 10kHz.

Due to the small size of the capsule, the X-Q has an accurate and lifelike sound that excels at concert and ensemble recording, use as a room mic, on choir and organ; as well as applications such as string and wind instruments, piano, and acoustic guitar.

The X-Q is excellent for stereo recording. X-Q stereo pairs are matched to within 0.3dB A-weighted sensitivity and very close frequency response as well.

Power Supply and Interconnection

The X-Q is available in two versions: the standard version is intended for studio use with acoustic instruments, and also with low-voltage power supplies. The high-output version offers lower output impedance for live and location recording, as well as increased SPL handling for louder sources (All X-Qs produced in 2008 were the standard version).

The X-Q is designed to work with low voltage and low current power supplies as well as standard phantom power. The X-Q requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V, and can also use plug-in power supplied by portable recorders or Soundblaster®-compatible PC soundcards. The high-output version requires +12V to +48V phantom power.
