PIPsqueak Specification

PIPsqueak was discontinued in 2014.

Naiant no longer supplies replacement batteries for PIPsqueak.  The replacement NiMH battery pack may be purchased directly from the vendor.  The customer must terminate the battery pack to the PIPsqueak connector.  On request, Naiant can supply replacement connector pins without charge.

PIPsqueak™ is a portable, battery-powered microphone amplifier that offers support for stereo plug-in power low-voltage microphones.  PIPsqueak may also be configured with an unpowered stereo high-impedance input for piezoelectric or magnetic transducers such as instrument pickups, or with a 3.5mm TRRS or 4-pin Binder input (with adaptor cable) for stereo “3-wire” low-voltage microphones.

PIPsqueak has a single switch for three-position stereo gain control; standard settings are +4, +18, and +32dB, but may be customized to any three gain settings from 0 to +32dB.  PIPsqueak may also have a channel gain offset trimpot, accessed with a small Phillips screwdriver through a hole in the top of the case.  The gain trim must be reset when the gain switch setting is changed.

PIPsqueak automatically switches on when a miniplug is inserted into its output jack.  PIPsqueak turns off when the output miniplug is removed, and gain is switched to low. PIPsqueak incorporates an internal rechargeable NiMH battery for efficiency and economy; with typical autonomy of 30 hours. PIPsqueak is recharged via its output jack using the supplied charger, or any power source that is 9VDC, 100mA minimum. PIPsqueak cannot be using while charging.  Time from full discharge to full charge is approximately six hours.

PIPsqueak has a single green/red LED that indicates power on (green), clip warning (red, at 0dBV), low battery (constant yellow), and charge status (red when charging, green when charged).

PIPsqueak has three case options: clear anodized aluminum, blue anodized aluminum with matching rear and clear anodized front panels, and black anodized case with black anodized front and rear panels.  PIPsqueak may also be ordered with a pocket clip attached.  The pocket clip will block access to the channel gain offset trimpot, so those options are not available together.
