The MSH-2 was discontinued in February 2008.
The MSH-2 is an electret condenser microphone that uses a 10mm omnidirectional capsule. Its frequency response is generally flat, with a small, gentle peak centered at 6kHz, and slight rolloffs above 16kHz and below 40Hz.
It is recommended for general use for any typical small diaphragm condenser microphone application, including drum overheads, piano, acoustic guitar, and brass and wind instruments. Its higher SPL handling allows use in loud environments.
The MSH-2 (produced July 2007 and later) has an internally adjustable sensitivity control, which allows the mic to be set between -46dBV and -30dBV sensitivity. This can help to prevent clipping of a preamplifier when recording loud sources.
To adjust the sensitivity, disconnect the microphone, unscrew the top of the case, and using a small Phillips screwdriver, gently turn the control to the desired level. The factory setting is in the middle of the range, at -36dBV sensitivity. Adjusting the sensitivity while the mic is connected is not recommended.
The MSH-2 requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V with at least 2mA current available per microphone. For use with power supply voltage of less than +18V, sensitivity should be set at or near the minimum level.

The MSH-2T was discontinued in December 2007.
The MSH-2T is a transformer-balanced electret condenser microphone that uses a 10mm omnidirectional capsule. Its response is inspired by classic dynamic mics, with a low-end rolloff and a presence peak. The transformer adds midrange texture to its sound, reduces transmission line noise and interference, and allows the MSH-2T to work with low voltage and low current power supplies.
It is recommended for applications where its characteristic sound is desired, including vocals and instrument amplifiers. Its higher SPL handling and low sensitivity allow use on loud sources without overloading preamplifiers.
The MSH-2T requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V, and can also be used with the MBB and XBB battery boxes (with the appropriate adaptor cable as required).
