I have had some inquiries about a four-channel amplifier design in the IPA format. It is possible with a few differences:

– power would be phantom or external battery only.

– there would be no indicator LED, which isn’t necessary as there is no internal battery.

– input format would be TB6M, either in 2-wire or 3-wire configuration, with polarization voltage if required (TB7M would be required for “4-wire” active microphones).

– output format would be XLR-5-M only, with adaptor cables to either 4x XLR-3-M or 2x 3.5mm miniplug.

– gain control would have to be a bit creative. One possibility is a three-way toggle switch, as with the old tinybox design, but the toggle would be larger than I would recommend for an IPA-sized case–it would have a toggle that is 10mm long. Instead, I would suggest a hexadecimal rotary switch, which is the same size and type of switch as the stereo IPA’s slot or spindle-actuated switch. The hex switch would have only two gain settings per channel, but it would be possible to set each channel independently as you cycle through its sixteen positions.

I’d be interested in hearing more about this design and in seeing a preliminary sketch to indicate what this might look like.

It would be very similar to the IPA, except the output would be XLR-5-M instead of XLR-3-M. The input would be either TB6M or TB7M. The case is the same as the IPA.
